Evaluation of 'Times Up' Question 7

7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the final product?

Since the preliminary task I think that I have improved a great deal, because during the preliminary task I had very little knowledge on using the cameras and wasn't able to use it much in the preliminary task anyway as we were in a group of four so had to share the time using it as everybody needed to gain knowledge and experience of using a video camera. However in this task I was able to use the camera a lot more as it was just me a Vicky so the time only had to be split into two rather than four. The knowledge I gained made the finished product have a good quality by being able to do things such as keeping the camera steady to keeping it in focus. The editing was the same as the camera work because I had absolutely no knowledge of using that particular editing software and during the preliminary task most of my time was spent learning from the only person in the group who had experience with that software and it wasn't until this task when I was actually able to put those skills learnt to use.

I learnt about the 180 degree rule during the preliminary task and me and my group managed to stick to it during the whole of this task and managed to not break it. So during this task I had a lot of knowledge about this crucial rule already, but I was also very cautious about this rule, as if this is broken and you switch sides of two people having a conversation it can throw the audience off and they will be confused. So throughout the filming I was always thinking about how far we could move around whilst changing our angles.

I have also learnt to work more efficiently since in the preliminary task I was in a group of four I didn't have much pressure on me since the was more people for the work to spread around however in this task there was only two of us and a lot more work to do since it had to be longer and more planning was needed. This pushed me to work to our deadlines and work on my time management.

All these different skills I have improved on has helped me to enhance the quality of my work as during the preliminary task I didn't do as much as I hoped I would've liked to because all of us were learning, but during this opening scene task I was able to apply all the skills I had learnt during lessons and use these to improve the work and learn even more such as adding transitions into the opening scene, also being able to speed up or slow down some of the clips so that it looked more realistic.
